Challenge One

I am super excited to have finished my first ever challenge!!!  I probably went overboard designing and making all the undergarments too.  I got very inspired during the process and kept going.  If I remember correctly we were supposed to reference the inspirations for our designs.  The shoes were a Victorian gothic boot mid-calf and I added a little Louboutin  bow on the back.  I was ready for the outfit next.   Initially I was blown away by Rodarte's dress for the Metropolitan Museum's Fashion Exposition.  It was a flowy black, red and white silk chiffon dress that went to the floor.  Secondly I saw a Prada dress for this fall that was leather with a pieced fitted top and ruffles, and I just loved the leather and lace combo.  Lastly Valentino has been using a lot of ruffles and a dress for the runway collection caught my eye.  Sticking to my concept of recycling as much as possible,  the leather was cut from an old jacket.  The silk chiffon was cut up from an old blouse to make the skirt, the fishnets, hair accessory, and trim for all leather goods.  So all in all the boots were the only thing I did not make on my own.

Challenge Two

This challenge was somewhat difficult for me.  I finally settled on Cinderella because of her being dressed by her fairy godmother turning old items to new.  I once again used all recycled materials.  I designed this updated dress using colors from her original dress and used glass beads to symbolize the glass slippers from the original.  I looked to Valentino and the use of sheer fabrics for inspiration.  The design is updated by having a longer fitted top section and used the sheer undergarment as the bottom half.  She is not wearing shoes because in the new version she has lost both shoes in her haste.
In my theme pictures I show her after the ball and her carriage has turned back to a pumpkin and she is catching her breath at the fence of the palace.
