Challenge Six - Contestant 12

For this Challenge, I have created an Avant Garde menswear ensemble inspired by the Goth style. One of the drawbacks I see with Goth style fashion is that it can look inexpensive and of poor taste. I wanted to counter this with atypical fabrics and a luxurious silhouette. This outfit includes a modern frock coat with an exaggerated fullness and length, matching pants, and black sheer racerback two layered top. I was inspired by military style, as well as the deconstructed looks also found on the runway. Lately I have become mildly obsessed with gold embellished materials and fashions, and decided my Goth fashion would have gold materials and accents. The base fabric of the frock coat is taupe with alternating charcoal and golden pinstripes. I lined the coat in a two-tone metallic copper silk. The pants are of the same fabric. The undershirt is made from a black mesh embellished with distressed, gold-leafed square sequins, layered under a black mesh in order to tone down the shine of the sequins. I carried over the deconstructed style with the unfinished edges of the top.
