Challenge One
I had this great detailed brocade ribbon that inspired the design. The bodice is made of two pieces of the brocade ribbon folded and pleated to make the top (and displaying both the right and wrong sides of the ribbon) with accent straps. the ornate brocade brought to mind Elizabethan costumes and I encorporated a 'ruff' of sorts along with the modern shape. The skirt is made of strips of coordinating ribbon sewing and shaped with a little extra drama at the rear. I beaded the edge of the ruff collar and made jewelery to match.

Challenge Two
I chose to make a grape mini cocktail dress with cowl draping and a ruched skirt for this challenge. The fabric is a mauve thai silk with a grape mesh overlay. I wanted the color and the draping and gathering to create the texture and detail for the garment.
